As the weather starts to warm up, hopeful thinking I know, I like to spend a bit of time thinking about my skin care routine and how I can better spend my time. Especially focusing on my night time routine, I like to have a spring clean and target different goals. I’ve made it through winter, which is without a doubt the harshest on my skin, and I can look at adding in different serums and ingredients that take a back burner over the colder months.
The first main difference is I always switch up my moisturiser. Instead of the Nivea Night Cream classic in the blue tub, which I exactly what my dry skin needs throughout winter, its too much for every night heading into spring. Don’t get me wrong, I still keep a tub on my vanity to use periodically, but it isn’t in my everyday rotation. I prefer to use a lighter gel cream such as the Simple Water Boost Skin Quench Sleeping Cream or the Water Boost Hydrating Gel Cream as they hydrate intensely and feel so nourishing on the skin while also being lightweight.
I add in Vitamin C Serum. Now I’ve been on a bit of a journey with Vitamin C over the last year or so. I started using it every single night alongside my other serums, and instantly found that at first my skin was starting to look amazing and glowy! But it soon started to get really congested, lots of blackheads and little under the surface bumps that I just couldn’t shift. When I started to simplify my routine to find the cause (because I very rarely get problem skin, I knew it was something I was using) it cleared up when I stopped using the Vitamin C serum.
But I still want the glow that came from using the serum, I did some research. I cut it out completely, and after maybe a month added it back in, but only twice a week. Using it more sparingly in this way not only gives my skin chance to recover in between uses, but it still gives the glow! I find that I like using this most straight after a hyaluronic acid serum, before my moisturiser. The glow the next morning is unreal, and it smells incredible which is always a bonus.
I start using a tan mist. I have a whole post coming up about how I’ve started including this to my routine, and its another one that I don’t use every night. Its the St Moritz Glow Face Mist which is super affordable, and gives a beautiful natural glow. I use it maybe once a week at the moment, but come summer no doubt I will start using it more often to build up more colour.
I up the sun protection factor. Even in winter, its so important to include an SPF in the morning even if its raining and cloudy. I use minimum factor 15 through winter but in spring I up that 30, and in summer take it up again to factor 50. You really can’t under estimate the importance of sun protection, there’s no point in putting in all the effort and using all your acids and serums in the evening then wrecking your skin by exposing it to the sun.
Spring clean your skin care shelf. If you’ve had anything since pre lockdown one, its time to throw it away. Skincare doesn’t last forever, and just like make up it can do more harm than good when its old. Most products are only good for 12 months, so if you’ve got fond memories of using a product after a night out or after seeing friends in real life its time for the bin. Same goes for your make up too, its all a breeding ground for bacteria which doesn’t need to be going onto your skin.
Skincare doesn’t stop at the chin! I know in winter its easy to forget that under our scarves and roll neck jumpers is actual skin just like on our faces, take those serums and oils all the way down your neck and onto the chest in preparation for all those lovely sun dresses when the weather and lockdown permits!
How do you change up your skincare for spring?

I love switching it up especially at this time of year x
I love to do a skincare review once the weather gets better and spring is finally coming around. I always change my moisturizer from a pretty thick, hydrating one to a more lightweight one. I have to sort through my products though because some of them might be over the 12 months mark lol. Great post!

Haha it’s so easy to lose track of how long you’ve had things! I found a bourjois foundation in an old makeup bag and started using it before realising the brand stopped in 2019 so it’s definitely too old to be using on my face 😱 x
I love switching up my skincare for the warmer weather!
