I have an everlasting desire to be a bronzed golden goddess, but I never (repeat EVER) want to go through the hassle of fake tanning. Its messy, its smelly and it takes too much time. On top of that, the fake tans I’ve tried that are made for body skin rather than face skin, make me break out. Not an ideal situation to be in, I’d rather be pale and have clear skin than tanned and spotty for sure, but I want the best of both worlds and just like our favourite Verruca Salt. I want it now.
I have a pretty solid skincare routine, and I’m always apprehensive to add new things into the mix for fear of disrupting the delicate balance that is my face. I have super dry skin that requires two moisturisers, three serums and one chemical exfoliant every night to stay happy and healthy (I am aware of how backwards that sounds).
A few months ago after being indoors for too long due to national, then regional lockdowns, I decided to take the plunge and order the St Moriz Advance Pro Radiant Glow Face Mist from Superdrug. All the words were convincing me that this was exactly the product I needed. Radiant. Glow. I was sold. When it arrived I studied the bottle closely, the directions initially worried me.
Get the best results by following our tanning experts’ simple steps:
• Ensure face is thoroughly cleansed and dry before use.
• Hold the bottle approx. 20cm from the face, with gently closed eyes, lightly spray the mist evenly over your face, neck and décolletage.
• A light tan will develop in up to 8 hours. During this time, avoid any contact with water, perspiration or applying other products to the skin.
• Reapply daily to maintain a deeper tan.
‘Ensure face is thoroughly cleansed and dry before use’ and ‘Avoid applying other products to the skin’ struck fear into my very core. What about my serums and moisturisers? Would my skin flake off like an over cooked flapjack the next day? I went ahead and tried it anyway because there’s little to no chance of me leaving the house for the rest of the year which allows me plenty of time to fix whatever problems this may cause.
I applied the spray, as instructed, on clean dry skin. First impressions we’re that it was a really nice spray, and it felt as though I got a really nice light coverage of product all over with next to no effort. It did however take a long time to dry down, and in the end I resorted to using my hair dryer on the coolest setting to dry off. This worked well and allowed me to go straight to sleep with no sticky feeling on my skin, albeit slightly dryer and tighter due to the lack of other products.
When I woke up in the morning, the glow was real. The colour that had developed over night was beautiful and natural, it had applied evenly across my face, neck and chest which gave my whole complexion a lovely summer glow. Something about having a tan just makes me stand a bit taller and feel great about my self.
That night I decided to risk it, I couldn’t live another day without my skincare. I applied all my usual products about half an hour before I went up to bed, then just before I went to sleep I applied the tan mist the same I had the night before. What could possibly go wrong, its all skincare really…
Well nothing went wrong, I woke the next morning to not only a deeper tan colour (possibly too deep for me, but I wanted to experiment) but my skin was happy and glowing from my usual skincare products. I would say that my chest went very very dark, in hindsight I would recommend laying an old towel or something around the base of your neck to stop the fine mist from falling onto your chest as it had done on me. Although your face may need two applications, your chest may not, and the mist is so fine it falls onto your chest without even really concentrating the product there. Gravity eh.
It took around a week for the tan to come off my chest fully, which is about normal for other body tans I have tried. It obviously came off my face quicker but with using a chemical exfoliator every day that was bound to happen, but it can easily be topped up on your face only until it all comes off and you can reapply all over.
I have continued to use this spray around about once a month when I feel particularly housebound and you can see the lack of sunlight on my complexion. I feel like the addition of the tan spray doesn’t disrupt the delicate balance of skincare that I use on my face everyday, but it adds the perfect colour for me.
Here’s the link for the product I purchased, I usually always buy from Superdrug but this product is available in other stores too.
Let me know if you’ve tried this spray or any others like it, or if there’s anything else you’d like a review on. I’ve seen St Moriz now have a ‘Natural Glow Face Moisturiser’ which I’d love to try out, have any of you tried it before? Should I try it or is it not as good as the spray? Let me know, have a great day!
