*NEW* Revolution Bright Light Highlighter Review

Last year I got my hands on a similar product to this, a cushion tipped highlighter from Maxfactor, but unfortunately it has since been discontinued. A liquid highlighter in this form is my favourite for many reasons, the applicator makes it so easy and the actual formula’s tend to be amazing and reflective without being chunky and glittery. So naturally, I had to pick up the most recent offering from Revolution.

Revolution have launched these new Bright Light Highlight Wands available in six shades for £8. They’re stocked at Boots, Superdrug and directly through the Revolution website.

Introducing the Revolution Bright Light Highlighters. Infused with quartz, the highlighter sticks sponge applicator makes it easy to create a gorgeous, luminous glow. Apply less for a natural radiance or build it up for a blinding highlight. Vegan and cruelty free.

I feel like there’s a really great selection of shades available for lots of skin tones, Revolution are amazing at inclusivity and this range is no different. This is the palest shade which is perfect for my skin tone, and there is a wide range of tones that are deeper from pinks to golds for whatever look your looking for.

Hand Swatch

To check the shade and the amount that comes out on the applicator I tried it on my hand first. It took a few clicks to get the product to the tip, as it always does with this kind of applicator, but once it had come up it only took two clicks to get it completely covered and ready for application.

I dabbed the product out onto the back of my hand and used the sponge tip to blend lightly over the edges, which worked just fine for on my hand but I would need to go in with something else to blend on my face. The colour is pretty much the exact shade of my skin, so its undetectable but when it catches the light it becomes so reflective and radiant. It felt creamy and blended easily, with no chunky glitters.

First Application

I chose to try this initially on a full makeup day, which are few and far between these days. I wore a matte foundation for longevity, but wanted a glowy complexion so reached for this without hesitation. Firstly I tried to dab this onto the high points of the cheeks and blend it out with a brush, but this just moved the foundation underneath and made it streaky. It then set very quickly so I would recommend doing each section of the face in turn rather than applying the product then blending out.

I found through a little trial and error it works incredibly well patted onto the cheeks, on either set or not set foundation. You do need to do one section at a time so as not to let the product dry before its fully blended, but once it’s patted out with either the fingertips or a sponge, it sets down really nicely to leave the most incredible sheen on the skin that is seamless.

This colour, on my skin tone, blends completely into the other base products and doesn’t leave any sort of cast when the light isn’t directly on the skin. However as I moved my head and the product caught the light, it creates the most intense reflect that just looks like the skin is wet rather than glittery. That’s why I love this type of product, it gives such an intense reflect without any chunky-ness. It can absolutely be layered up for even more, but even for me one layer is sufficient (and I want to be seen from outer space at all times!)

Would I Recommend?

Absolutely! The shade range is really good, with more blush tones or golden tones depending on your preference. For only £8 its a really lovely liquid highlight, that’s easy to get your hands on and the colour range is fab. I want to try this liquid highlight as a base for a power highlight next to see how that works, I can’t see that it would be anything other than blinding!

I have a YouTube video coming soon in which I use this product so check back here if you want to see that!

Have you tried this liquid highlight? What is your favourite drugstore, affordable highlighter at the minute?

  3. Are they kind of similar to Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Wands? I must take a closer look at the shades, because I love a cream highlighter x

  4. This wand reminds a little bit of Ysl’s touche éclat. Thanks for sharing!
