‘Tis the season for the nudes, and I always find it so refreshing to dig out my old favourites and pack away the reds to really signify the change of seasons. There’s something so inspiring about physically packing away all those deeper red tones and embracing the softer pink hues to get ready for the season ahead. I’ve already done a round up of my favourites just from Revolution Pro (linked here) but here’s my other staples from the rest of my collection.
To try and create some sense of order I’ve ordered these from most glossy to most matte in finish, as when I’m doing my makeup the finish matters more than the colour in most instances for me. I reach for these nudes so regularly, and if you’ve been round here a while you wont be surprised by some of them. Of course I have new favourites, but these are the tried and tested firm faves from the last few years that I’m super excited to get back into heading into spring.
ELF Plumping Gloss in Mocha Twist – £6
For versatility, this gloss is such a staple in my makeup bag. I wear this alone on an everyday basis to hydrate the lips and add a slight wash of colour, or pair with a lip liner for a more glam look. The shade is the perfect balance between nude and pink for my fair skin tone, and it doesn’t feel sticky or gloopy on the lips. Obviously it doesn’t last all day long, no gloss will, but it wears off nicely unlike some glosses that bunch up and peel off the lips in a really horrible chunky way. I have a few shades in this formula, but this is my most used shade.
Coconut Plump L’Oreal Color Riche Shine
Can I find this one online literally anywhere? No, but I’m fairly certain its the same as the Color Riche Plump’n’ Glow in the shade Catch. Its a beautiful light wash of colour with a hydrating feel and glossy finish. It has more staying power than the gloss mentioned above, but less colour pigment. In contrast to the nude tones above, this is more of a light pink although it doesn’t appear as opaque as it’s showing up on the hand swatch. It gives a beautiful subtle tint to the lips, but with the most luxurious hydrating feeling, the perfect mix between a nourishing lip balm and pigmented lipstick.
Keep It Fun Maybelline SuperStay Crayon
This formula is marketed as matte, but I find its more of a semi matte leaning towards a satin finish. I have a few in this formula but by far this is my most worn colour, its a beautiful nude pink that’s slightly deeper than the others so I feel it lends itself to its own space within my collection. The longevity of this crayon is incredible, it lasts all day long without question. It applies so richly pigmented and creamy, and stays that way through the day.
Blush In A Rush L’Oreal Color Riche Matte
By far my most worn drugstore lipstick, this was so close to being my wedding day lipstick which speaks volumes for how highly I rate it. The finish is matte but it doesn’t feel at all drying on the lips, don’t get me wrong its not hydrating but it isn’t at all uncomfortable. It lasts really well on the lips even with eating and drinking, and the colour pay off is fantastic. Again, I have a few shades of this formula and although I love them all, the shade of this is so beautiful I reach for it over and over.
Love U Back MAC Matte Lipstick
As far as MAC goes, I know Velvet Teddy is a classic but for me Love U Back is just more wearable. Slightly lighter, slightly more pink and just more everyday appropriate for my skin tone. This is by far the most matte and drying formula, which does make it long lasting but sometimes I find it too intensely matte. Topped with the L’Oréal glossy lipstick, this is the dream combo!
What’s your go to spring nude lip? Let me know!
