I have been on the hunt for a khaki green eyeliner for the longest time, I have a purple pencil just like these from L’Oreal that I wear most days so I’ve been wanting to add some more shades to my collection to change things up a bit. I was browsing my local Wilko’s (for a replacement of my favourite mascara actually!) and I saw these! The same mechanical pencil of my favourite L’Oreal one, but so many colours and only £1.50. So naturally I picked up three.
The Colours…
You just cant beat a classic brown liner, so I got the shade 35 Sparkling Brown. I didn’t twig in the shop that this was actually sparkly, but it is! It’s not overly noticeable but it does have a gold shimmer running through it that is so pretty. Its so soft and draws on so easily, the colour is really pigmented so you don’t need to scribble to build up the the colour, one or two swipes and your good to go.
The next shade down is 12 I Have A Green, and again this one is shimmery. This is more of a teal turquoise shade with silver reflects in it, and if you didn’t know this is my favourite colour! I wanted my bridesmaids to wear this colour for the wedding, turns out its impossible to find! Anyway, this shade is much brighter than I first thought, the creamy intensity from the colour really pays off on the skin its a beautiful shade.
Lastly the bottom shade is 36 O-live You. Cute! This was the shade I was initially drawn to, its a true olive khaki shade and unlike the other two this one is not shimmery at all, its a completely matte pencil. The formula of the pencil is the same as the other two, super intensely pigmented and creamy, draws on with ease with just one swipe.
The Application And Wear Test
I prefer this style of pencil over a regular pencil you have to sharpen to keep precise, I find these easier to use as the actual product tends to be creamier and you don’t have to worry about sharpening it you can just wind it up and go. These from Essence didn’t disappoint, I would even go as far to say they’re actually easier to use than the L’Oreal one that I love! Just because its a fraction of the price doesn’t mean you have to compromise on quality.
These liners claim to be long lasting: ‘The long-lasting eye pencil from essence is the ultimate eyeliner for those wanting an intense and long-lasting colour. With its innovative twist mechanism, the long-lasting eye pencil ensures a particularly accurate and easy application. It gives a thin but dark line that stays without smudging.’ It also says on the packaging that they’re waterproof and should last for 18+ hours.
Now, as you may expect, I haven’t actually worn these for 18 hours, not even close! But the real test for me is wearing these when I’m running around at work and if they transfer to my upper eyelid. Well I’ve worn them for 12 hours during busy days at work and they’ve not budged at all, no transfer no smudging. Come the end of the day they come off with micellar water super easily, but until you want them off they certainly stay put really well!
Would I Recommend?
Absolutely yes! Lets just set aside the fact these are only £1.50 for a moment, they’re genuinely a lovely pencil to work with. The colour pay off is fantastic and no matter what look your going for there’s a wide selection of colours to choose from. I’m definitely going to pick up some of the other colours next time I’m in a Wilkos. If you’re unsure if coloured eyeliner is for you or you don’t know if its something you’ll incorporate into your routine, these are definitely the ones I’d recommend trying.
I love a coloured eyeliner for everyday, it’s a simple way to spice up your everyday look with such little effort. These are without a doubt a staple in my routine now. I’ve reached for the shade 12 I Have A Green the most out of all three I picked up, but all of them are beautiful.
