Pumpkin Spice Eye Shadow Look – Trying Makeup Obsession Feelin’ Spicy Palette

Am I that basic girl? Yes, I am actually, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing! I love this time of year and everything that comes with it, obviously one of those things is the classic pumpkin spice latte, and as much as I don’t like the actual drink (give me straight up unadulterated caffeine please) I love the tones and colours that come with the change of seasons. The crisp cool air and a warm toned smokey eye are all I desire, and this palette virtually jumped out at me while I was online shopping, and it was only £3 on offer on the Boots website! I had to grab it and give it a go!

First impressions, its teeny! Which isn’t a negative since the world is opening up again and travel is happening again, smaller more compact palettes absolutely have their place, but this one just surprised me. Its about the size of the palm of my hand, making each colour about the size of my fingernail. But what did I expect for £3? I don’t really know either way to be honest!

The colour selection is beautiful with four matte shades, three slightly shimmery satins and two glittery foils. I hate it when a palette is full of shimmers or foils but there’s no matte shades to build the smokey base you need in order to use those beautiful pops of shimmer, this isn’t the case with this selection of formulas. The matte shades are the perfect selection of transition tones and deeper purple based browns that could easily create a warm smokey eye without any of the shimmers or foils.

The Application

Now, I’m no expert when it comes to any kind of makeup lets get that clear, but I found these quite hard to work with. I had a set idea in my head that I wanted to create with this palette, a blown out dramatic smokey eye and in order to do that I needed to blend right out into my brows and temples. The darker shades ‘Cinnamon’ and ‘Whats Your Flavour’ went really patchy when blending out. I used my regular concealer for the base that I’ve done with countless other palettes, but these darker shades in particular took a lot of work to get to look seamless, like I had to go back in with a selection of different brushes to get the colour to lay down in some patches, but then in other areas it was fine? Weird.

The shimmers and foils, as expected, were beautiful, ‘Ginger’ and ‘Hot’ on the lid laid down perfectly and blended into each other to create the shimmer on the lid. I didn’t use the other foil ‘Mood’ in this look but have used it since and its just as soft and reflective. I dabbed a little of my favourite inner corner highlight, the Maybelline Chrome Extreme highlight in Diamond Glow, to the very corner of my eye to really make everything pop.

Would I Recommend?

Even for £3 I would say no, for just a little bit more money you could get a Makeup Revolution one that would no doubt work better and you would have more of the actual product. This just feels a bit gimmicky, and had I seen it in a shop I wouldn’t have picked it up. I like the overall look, but I wouldn’t reach for it over some of my other palettes with similar colours.

Would you wear a look like this, and what products would you recommend to me to try and recreate this look but with products that work better?
