Revolution Gel Eyeliner – £6 in Superdrug
Will this quest ever end, trying to find the perfect black eyeliner seems so impossible at this point. I feel like I’ve tried every conceivable drug store option for a pen liner, nothing quite reaches my expectations. Are my sights set too high? I don’t know, all I want is something that genuinely stays on all day (and night if required) and is fairly simple to apply. I’ve even dropped my request for it to be the blackest of blacks now, but the staying power is non negotiable.
Ultra pigmented gel eyeliner pot with precision angled brush.
First Impression
Whist I have never used a gel eyeliner pot before, I found it to be quite easy to use. The gel was much firmer than I was expecting, but it loaded onto my brush and applied to the lid easily. I didn’t use the brush that it came with as I found it wasn’t as precise as I would have liked so instead used a smaller liner brush also from Revolution.
The product dried onto my lids quickly, which was a positive when I’d got the hang of the application, but did make it quite difficult to work with when I didn’t know what I was doing. Once the liner was on and set, I couldn’t then go over the same area again to adjust anything
Wear Test
After just a few minutes the line started creasing and smudging off, the first picture below was after the product was applied maybe 5 minutes previous. The second picture was about 8 hours later and as you can see it smudged all over the lid and rubbed off in the crease. I didn’t have any eyeshadow products on my lid that could have caused it to not stick properly, only a little bit of bronzer through the crease which is very much standard for an everyday look. Also peep the cat behind me in the after picture, you’re welcome.
I have since tried this liner a few more times. Once trying to just define the lash line and not add a wing, same issue with smudging and transferring. I’ve tried to apply it then go over it with a black eyeshadow, although this set the product in place at first it still smudged through the day and do I really want to do a whole extra step like that every time? Absolutely not. If I’m going with eyeshadow afterwards anyway, I’ll just use that and skip the gel eyeliner all together.
Would I recommend?
Unfortunately the answer would have to be no, it doesn’t come through with its ‘life proof’ claims. It doesn’t even stay on a very chilled day in the house so I definitely wouldn’t trust it not to budge during a full day at work or whilst out and about. It is easy enough to apply, which honestly is about the only god thing going for it, it’s not the blackest of blacks and I just wouldn’t reach for it.
So the quest continues, what black eyeliner should I try next? What’s your favourite go to liner, liquid or otherwise I’m open to ideas!

I feel like I’m always on the search for the perfect black liner too! My fave is still the KVD tattoo liner, I just keep going back to it.

It’s a shame that it doesn’t live up to it’s claims and stick around as long as you’d like it too!
Hope that your week is going well 🙂 It’s a relaxing day here as it’s a public holiday 🙂 We spent the morning at the playground.

It’s years since I used a gel liner. I used to love the Bobbi Brown and Maybelline ones and never had any problem with smudging x
