ELF Putty Bronzer Review – The Best Cream Contour?

Cream contour isn’t new to me, I’ve been using the LOreal cream sculpt pallet for years but it’s become so hard to get my hands on now I’ve desperately been looking for a replacement. I’ve tried many alternatives over the last year or so, and although I’ve tried some fantastic cream contour products (such as the Collection contour stick, read about that here) nothing had quite reached my expectations.

Enter, ELF Putty Bronzer! I’ve loved the putty blush in shade Bora Bora since I tried it, so to say I had high hopes would be an understatement.

There are eight shades to choose from ranging from a cool light tone to deeper and warmer shades too, depending on your skin tone and if you want a bronze or contour effect. Paired with the eight shades of the putty blush you can really curate the tones to create your perfect combination.

So I picked up the shade ‘Tan Lines’ which is the second shade in the line up, the first looked a tad too cool toned for what I would want to use it for but if you were solely looking for a contour shade and your fair like me, I’m certain it would work perfectly. The shades then get deeper and I feel the range is really great for a wide selection of tones, which cant be said for most base products even in 2021!

I apply the colour with a Real Techniques buffing brush and I just find it’s the most seamless and easiest cream product to blend out over the cheeks. It creates a perfect contoured bronze look that’s not too harsh, but can be built up if you want more. In terms of versatility, this product has it all. I wear this on an everyday basis just on my bare skin as a light wash of colour, but also for a more full face of makeup with a powder bronzer over the top. This can be used in so many different ways and I believe in any sort of look.

Would I Recommend?

100%! Yes! aside from the fact these are only £6 and easily accessible, available in Boots and Superdrug, they really work! And work really well too! The colour range is great, I think most people would be able to find a shade that would work for them, and it lasts beautifully all day. Its easy to build and blend, and fake that jawline and cheek bone I haven’t seen since pre pandemic!

Have you tried any of the ELF putty products? Which colours would you recommend?

    1. Its a fabulous product, let me know if you get your hands on it!x

  3. This was really interesting! I picked up the lightest cool toned shade and tried to use it as a dupe for the Illamasqua cream pigment and didn’t love it as a contour product. I think the formula is a little too creamy for those areas that need more precision. I need to pick up tan lines though because I think the reasons I didn’t like it as a contour will actually make it a nice cream bronzer for warming. I’m glad you’re enjoying using yours! x
