Body Collection Illuminating Foundation Review – £4 Bargain Foundation!

I love a bargain, that’s no secret here I’m all for finding budget friendly products but only if they actually perform well. A £4 foundation is all very well and good, but if it’s awful what’s the point? When I saw this one from Body Collection in Wilko’s I had to pick it up and give it a go, it had all the key words I look for in a base product; Light to medium buildable coverage, illuminating finish, vegan and cruelty free!

The Application

The bottle has a pump, which is my preference in products like foundations. I used two pumps to cover my face and another one pump round my nose and across the cheeks to cover my redness. I don’t have bad skin in terms of acne or scarring or any pigmentation problems that require a higher coverage, so a light to medium is perfect for me! It definitely built up well in the areas I layered it, and didn’t break apart or start to look heavy through the day.

It blended really easily using either a brush or sponge, I used a sponge in the pictures above. It felt like nothing on the skin, which is one of the main reasons I love a lighter coverage. It didn’t go all funky on any dry patches and exaggerate them, nor did it separate on oilier areas such as the sides of my nose. It just blended over my whole face and evened everything out beautifully.

The colour is spot on for me in winter, it would maybe be a little fair for me in summer or if I wear any fake tan, but its a lovely match at the moment. There are only eight shades, so that’s not great but if there’s one that look as though it would be near your shade, it may be worth a go as its a light coverage it does have that wiggle room. Saying that the darkest shades are the most limited, with only one that I would consider ‘deep’ which is really disappointing in the current climate.

It is worth noting that although the bottle and name say ‘Illuminating’, the website describes this foundation as ‘demi-matte’ which I would certainly agree with more. Its in no way drying on the skin, but I didn’t need to set it down which I thought I would with it being illuminating. Its a lovely soft focus finish, but in comparison to other ‘glowy’ or illuminating foundations I own (and love) this is definitely one of the more matte ones.

This foundation, as well as all the Body Collection products, are vegan and cruelty free which is a huge bonus for me.

Would I Recommend?

Absolutely! For £4 it’s a lovely foundation that I’ve reached for fairly regularly. It layers well with my other go to products and I haven’t had any problems with any primers or other base products for example. It lasts reasonably well through the day, I do have to blot my face by the end of the day but I don’t powder it on application for maximum glow straight off the bat.

I am disappointed in the shade range, but hopefully this is something they’re looking into and making more inclusive. I do appreciate it’s not a huge brand, but I would hope for better from any brand in 2021.

    1. Thanks Gemma! 🙂 X

  4. This looks so good on you! I prefer lighter coverage for the same reasons, it feels like nothing and makes skin look so fresh. The illuminating/ demi-matte thing is confusing. This sounds wonderful but the shade range is SO disappointing, even 20 doesn’t sound like a lot these days, but 8?! I’m not sure if I’d be able to find a match, hopefully they expand it.

  5. It’s a great price, but I expected more of a glow, but I guess you could use a glowy primer or powder with it! x
