Can Switching Up Your Micellar Water Improve Skin Hydration?

During this season of the year, our skin can easily suffer from dryness and tightness from the colder weather and central heating. I’m always looking for ways to improve hydration in my skin, I suffer from dry skin all year round but at this time of year it’s a constant battle. I’ve wanted to get my hands on this micellar water for ages but it’s always been out of stock when I’ve done Superdrug or Boots orders and the small stores in my town have never stocked it. Until I was browsing in Wilko’s recently and I saw it on the shelf, and it was on offer too!

There are many claims, for a simple micellar water its safe to say I was dubious. How can a micellar water, a product I personally only use as a first cleanse, help hydration in my super dry dehydrated skin? The claims are strong here though, 100% of trialists agreed their skin felt hydrated after use and 94% of trialists agreed skin was left soothed. Although these stats we’re collected from ‘161 Garnier Review Panellists’ so make of those claims what you will.

I use solely Garnier micellar water, generally the oil infused one that’s specially for dry and sensitive skin and I love it, I will always rebuy it I just find it’s the best for getting all my makeup off and leaving my skin feeling delightful. So I was a bit worried to try something new, but since this is also for dry and dehydrated skin I jumped straight in. I always use micellar water on a reusable cotton pad and follow with a cream cleanser and the rest of my skincare routine. Let me know if you’d like a post about my current skincare routine.

So how does it measure up to my regular first cleanse micellar water?

I’ve been using this for a week, and the only real comment I can make on it is that it’s fine. I wouldn’t say my skin feels more hydrated or soothed after using this, but nor did I think it would if I’m completely honest. Is it better than the oil infused micellar water I love? No I wouldn’t say it is. It doesn’t remove my makeup any better than the oil infused one, and I do think my skin feels softer and more hydrated after using that one. But equally I will continue to use it and finish the bottle, but I wouldn’t repurchase it over the oil infused one.

Have you tried this micellar water, or any other makeup remover like this? Let me know what you thought of it!

  1. For me, it’s a case of some being more drying than others, leaving my skin feeling tight after use. That said, Ii prefer to use an oil cleanser as my first cleanse x

  5. I tried Micellar water for a while (years ago) and I wasn’t impressed tbh. It wasn’t bad, but it also didn’t do what was promised. Like, it wasn’t a huge revolutionary experience 😀 I usually use make-up remover foam or gel 🙂
