Classic Christmas – A Red Lip Make Up Look

You can’t deny, it’s a classic for a reason!

Is there anything more festive than a pop of a red lip, balanced with a strong black wing and in my case, as always, a slick of glitter. Optional of course, but I feel it finishes off the whole festive vibe nicely!

A full coverage base is essential for this look for me, I have quite a lot of redness across my cheeks and sides of my nose so I need to cover that to really get the full impact of the red lip. I used my trusty favourite Nars foundation and set well with the L’oreal Fresh Wear Powder Foundation to amp up the coverage and mattify the face.

The whole English Rose look is optimised with a pop of bright blusher strategically placed high up at the back of the cheeks. This placement is so flattering and especially at this time of year, gives the illusion of a just in from the cold flush without being too much. Contour and bronzer is kept to a minimum to really capitalise on the colour from the blush, while I used one of my favourite highlighters to add a precise glow to the face.

The eyes are kept simple too, just a small amount of a cool toned bronzer through the crease to add a little bit of depth, then the blackest of black liners for the wing. This was my very first time using a gel eyeliner, I’ve always gone for a felt tip pen before but tried my hand at a pot with an angled brush and love the outcome! Its certainly something I’ll have to learn how to perfect but it was easy enough to do.

Obviously a little slick of glitter goes without saying, I just tapped on a small amount of the Collection Glam Crystals Liquid eyeliner in Cosmic Stars which is a clear base with white and holographic reflects in it and its just subtle enough while still being noticeable. You could easily build that up more (which I would do just for an average day anyway!) or go without if glitter isn’t your thing.

The obvious star of the show here is the red lip, and this is by far my favourite and most used red for the last few years at least but probably longer than that. When I say long wearing, I mean so long wearing it stains the lips so you’ll have it on for two days from one application. The applicator is so precise at the end you can line and fill the whole surface of the lips in one simple swipe, the colour is the perfect mix of not too pink not too orange not too dark just chef kiss perfection.

This is one of my go to looks at this time of year, so classic and goes with any outfit or occasion. Casual drinks with the girls? Red lip. Christmas work party? Red Lip. Dashing round the shops getting all the last minute Christmas presents? Red lip!

What’s your favourite look at this time of year, and are you team red or nude lip? Let me know!
