Is there anything more iconic for autumn, than a bold red lip? As a pale gal, I love a deep red with a natural base and black winged eyeliner and an actual tonne of mascara. 50’s vibe – Check! These are the lipsticks I reach for time and time again in autumn, but honestly I also wear them all year round too. There’s just something about the weather changing that turns me into the most basic pumpkin spice latte drinking red lip wearing millennial, but I’m here for it. Here’s a round up of the seven lip products I rate the most.
Revolution Matte Lipstick in Chauffeur
This is a slightly deeper, brown toned nude that lends its self so perfectly to the change of seasons. For a comfortable matte, that lasts all day and can easily be worn with any look, I grab for this one so often early on in the season. With a dark lip liner I find this transitions to a deeper darker lip with ease. I sometimes top with a gloss to change things up a bit, but more often than not I just wear this alone.
Revolution Pro HydraMatte Liquid Lipstick in Sphinx
This formula is so beautiful, and the colour is lovely for autumn. My favourite way to wear this is to lightly dab it into the centre of my lips and pat it out with my finger so its a soft bite of colour in the middle of my lips. It dries matte but its so powdery soft it doesn’t feel dry and tight, and the formula lasts really well all day. I’m desperate to try some other colours from the same formula because its so comfortable and the colour payoff is fantastic. It also smells like a vanilla buttercream chocolate cupcake, its delicious!
Loreal Paris Rouge Signature in I Enjoy
For a bold plum lip, that is more of a stain than a lipstick, this is so incredibly wearable. When I first saw the colour I was terrified. I’m a very pale gal, so thought this can’t work well on me? Wrong! I absolutely love it. It’s bold and deep and so rich it’s the perfect tone for this time of year. The formula is more like a stain than a regular liquid lipstick, so beware it will last all day and probably the next day too, I haven’t yet found a makeup remover that actually takes this off! But I just use that to my advantage by layering with a lip gloss or balm the next day for a wash of colour. The applicator makes it so easy to apply to the very edges of my lips, and its so quick and easy to do!
Loreal Paris Rouge Signature in I Am Worth It
This is my most worn out of all the products I’m mentioning here, I reach for this multiple times a week. The formula is the same as the plum colour above which speaks for how much I enjoy it! The colour is the perfect true red tone, and again so wearable. I even wear this under my mask at work, because it just feels so lovely. I generally pair it with a classic winged eyeliner, a tonne of mascara and a natural base for a classic 50’s vibe. I think I’m nearing the end of this tube, and I will 100% be repurchasing as I just love it.
Rimmel Stay Satin Lip Colour in Rad
Similarly to the Revolution Pro HydraMatte, I wear this tapped in the centre of my lips and blended out to the edges to fade it to nothing. This doesn’t last as long as the Revolution one but it is a satin finish so is a different feel, and it doesn’t stop me wearing it because of that. It fades really nicely through the day and can easily be reapplied, there’s lots of colours in this formulation for any look.
Maybelline Ink Crayon in Own Your Empire and Make It Happen
Although these can absolute be worn separately, and I do wear each of these colours on their own as well, I adore wearing these together. Using the darker shade ‘Make It Happen’ on the perimeter of the lips and the lighter brighter red ‘Own Your Empire’ in the middle and mixed together to create an ombre effect. This gives the most beautiful colour combination, paired with a lovely soft matte finish. I have many colours from the same collection and I love them all, but at this time of year this combination is such a win.
