My Genuine Current Every Day Makeup Routine – January 2022

Its so easy to get sucked into these posts and YouTube videos of other peoples everyday makeup and think, who on earth has the time to do all that, and why bother when all I do is turn up to work and wear a mask all day. Don’t get me wrong, I love a full face of makeup, but not for work and not everyday. My everyday routine takes maximum 10 minutes and I know it’ll last all day long even under a mask.

The basics for me are a highly concealed under eye (thanks eyebags), a strong brow, bright blush and long lashes. I sometimes throw in an eyeshadow, and if I do its always a glittery one, and sometimes a wing liner, but if you’ve read anything here before you’ll know all about my quest for the perfect black liquid liner. Its a long and ongoing quest, so I wont be mentioning one here today. In short, the makeup you see on my face around my mask needs to be flawless, but anything under it, ie lipstick, isn’t worth applying.

So I start with concealer, and for the last six months its been the same one. The Collection Stretch concealer is hands down the best one I’ve tried. I have two shades 4 and 5 for winter and summer. Its creamy and hydrating whilst also being a good medium to high coverage that lasts on my skin perfectly through the day, I mainly target this in the inner corner of the eyes where I have the most blue tones and blend it out under my eyes and over the lids. If I’m working I set it lightly with the Revolution Po Pressed CC powder, but that’s an extra step I don’t always do.

Up next is the rest of the face so I start with a little bronzer contour combo with the ELF Putty Bronzer in Tan Lines, this shade is perfect for a one and done step like this. I use the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush which is the perfect size for sweeping over the forehead and under the cheekbones to blend out in seconds any cream products. I set this with a new addition to my routine, the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer to keep it locked in but also add a teeny hint of a bronze glow over the skin.

For blush I gently dab over the high point of the cheeks with the Milani Baked Blush in Berry Amore, which has a subtle gold reflect to it which adds to the healthy glow without the need for a highlighter. This shade is so beautiful in winter, but in summer I’ll switch it out for something brighter.

For the eyes I have a few options, I always use my bronzer through the crease to add a little bit of colour. I love adding a pop of glitter and some of my favourites that are in rotation at the moment are the Barry M Metallic Cream Eyeshadow in Honoured, Huda Beauty Mint Eyeshadow Palette or the ELF Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow in Dirty Martini. The Barry M Cream Eyeshadow is a taupe shade, very neutral and the application is so simple just pack it on and blend the edges. The Huda palette is beautiful, and I wear all of the glittery shades regularly. I really got a lot of wear out of these on the run up to Christmas when I wanted to be ultimate festive vibes! The ELF glitters are my all time favourite formula, and dirty martini is a dark brown khaki shade with beautiful gold glitters which again, blends like a dream.

Mascara I switch up regularly, my most recent favourites have been the Maybelline Colossal Curl (review here) and the Sky High. Both last fantastically with no transfer, give length and volume and last all day long. I try new mascaras often, they’re always the first thing to run out in my routine, but I would rebuy both of these when they run out they’re fantastic.

Brows have been the same for months, the Eyelure Brow Pencil in Dark Brown. I love that it can be sharpened to give precise hair like strokes, the colour is perfect for me and its a firm pencil so it lasts really well in the brows. I don’t use a brow gel everyday, but if I do its always the Revolution Brow Gel in Dark Brown. It coats the hairs to define them without feeling too heavy or crusty, the colour again is perfect and lasts well. I find lots of brow products are either too warm and lean orange in my brows or too cool and look weirdly purple, but this combo hits the spot.

If I’m at work I’ll just slap on a lip balm or something similar to keep my lips from drying out under my mask. I love the Nivea Lip Balm in the light blue tube, I find it more hydrating than the original one in the dark tube. A new addition to me is the Vaseline Lip Therapy in Rosy Lips, it gives a subtle colour so If I’m going for a coffee and taking my mask off I’d reach for this for the ultra nourishing balm with a lovely hint of colour.

I filmed a genuine makeup routine video recently using most of these products and techniques, you can see that here! Be sure to subscribe and comment if you’ve come from this post!

So that’s my everyday makeup routine, super quick and simple. I feel like I could absolutely do this in the dark at this point, what’s your go too quick easy product?

  1. It’s great you have a daily routine that works for you! 🙂 I sometimes put on a BB cream with SPF in it but if I know I’ll be out in the sun a lot I just put on sunscreen, keeping things as simple as possible, haha! 🙂

Hope that you are having a wonderful weekend 🙂

  2. I have a pretty similar daily routine! I don’t think I could do it in the dark though!

  7. Yes these makeup videos are fun to watch but yes way too much makeup for an everyday look. Though there is trend towards more minimal fresh makeup. Morphe started a new line called Morphe 2 which is tarted towards gen z and people how like more minimal makeup. Your routine sounds great, you should make a video of it one day.
