Juvia’s Place The Mauves Eye Shadow Palette Review

When I saw Juvia’s Place had launched in Superdrug I knew I had to get my hands on some of the bits for myself. As a lover of eye shadow, and especially bright eye shadow, it was hard to narrow down which ones to grab first. The Zulu Palette, a nine pan collection of incredible bright shades, was sadly sold out when I went to order. I knew a neutral palette would fit seamlessly into my current routine, but I also wanted a bright one to really test the formulas.

They also stock concealers, bronzer duos, lip liners and lipsticks, but I wanted to dip my toe in gently with something I knew I’d get the use out of, so stuck to eye shadow.

I ended up with The Mauves palette, which is a 6 pan palette for £14. It is made up of three matte shades and three shimmers, one of which is a beautiful chunky duo chrome glitter shade. I chose this one over some of the others I looked at because some had 4 shimmers and only two mattes, I felt I would get more use out of this one as it has more mattes.

Hand Swatches

The colours swatched so beautifully on the hand, I did have to layer them up twice to get the pigment you see here, but that doesn’t bother me too much. The two darker shades on the top row are matte and the middle top is shimmer. The reflective particles seemed to blend out on the skin to leave that one looking more like a satin finish rather than straight up matte or straight up shimmer.

On the bottom row the first shade is mate, the perfect transition tone for me. The middle is the most incredible duo chrome shade, it seems like a perfect topper shade as the base doesn’t have any pigment its just the lay down of the reflective glitter tones. And lastly the third shade on the bottom row is a true violet bright shimmer glitter which actually swatched this vibrantly from one swipe and the glitter stayed super reflective.

First Application

I started with the first shade on the bottom row through my crease, this is the perfect nude mauve tone that would work on its own for an everyday look. It built up really nicely to be the perfect transition shade for everything else, then I went straight in with the brightest pink shade on the top row. This is a shimmer so I wasn’t expecting it to be as bright as it is in the pan but it built up so vibrantly and I had to use it so sparingly so it didn’t overwhelm the other colours.

The darkest shade on the right on the top row packed on the outer and inner corner, and smoked out with a mix of the hot pink and nude shade to create the smokey halo shape I was aiming for. I could have left it here for a more matte smokey look, but obviously I had to add that glitter from the bottom row. I packed it on with my finger and blended out with a flat brush to keep the pigment but soften the edge. It went on so easily and stayed so reflective even when blended out. I packed more on with the same flat brush to build it up in the very centre and that worked just as well, with no fall out too!

It is worth noting that I didn’t use a primer with this first look, just my Collection Stretch concealer which doubles as an eye base. The colours stayed super vibrant through the day and didn’t crease on me. If, like me, you have blue eyes this colour story really made my eye colour pop and I also feel the colours aren’t too out there to be worn everyday. Although the look here is quite dark and glam because I smokes it right out, the colours could so easily be dialled down for everyday.

Would I Recommend?

Yes! I’m already debating my next colour choice, the formulas are incredible and blend out like an absolute dream. Since this day when I used it first I’ve used it a tonne for everyday looks, and I already feel like I’ve got my cost per wear right down. The colours are the perfect mix of bright and vibrant, but also can be dialled down and worn everyday which makes it so easy to reach for for so many looks.

Have you tried purple eyeshadow before? What’s your favourite colour to wear on your eyes?
